After nearly 15 years in public service and community organizing in Athens, Tim will bring to the Mayor’s office a track record of proactive leadership, extensive experience in local policymaking, and a cooperative approach to governance.

As an Athens-Clarke County Commissioner, Denson spearheaded policies to create affordable housing through the Inclusionary Housing Policy, build more parks & green space, and keep families housed by creating the ACC Eviction Prevention Program. As a school board member for the Clarke County School District, Denson is proud to be part of a board that has put in place living wages for all school district employees, created a CCSD Sustainability Plan, and improved graduation rates.

Outside of public service, Tim Denson’s work experience and community organizing as a democratic socialist has uniquely prepared him for the challenges facing Athens-Clarke County. Tim currently works with individuals facing behavioral health crises and helps house those who are facing homelessness. Tim has also worked as a labor organizer for United Campus Workers of Georgia (CWA Local 3821), as organization coordinator of Athens for Everyone, and has more than a decade of experience in the service industry.

Tim has been a member of the Athens Area Democratic Socialists of America since 2020 and is proud to have received their endorsement!

Denson knows how to work both within government and in the community to get things done. He envisions an Athens where everyone’s needs are met, including their needs for safety, for transparent and accessible democracy, and for housing and economic security.
