16% of Athenians could lose snap benefits

An estimated 16% of Athens residents receive SNAP benefits. The Trump Administration is threatening to cut off benefits on November 1 and blaming it on the Government Shutdown (even though SNAP benefits have continued under all other shutdowns). Governor Brian Kemp could use a tiny part of the $14.6 billion dollar budget surplus to fill the gap, but he is refusing to.

It is threats like this that have led me to put reviving the Athens Eats Program on my platform. We used this program to make sure that no Athenian went hungry during the pandemic and we need to do the same now and moving forward.

Until then, here is a calendar showing where food distributions will be happening across the County in the month of November.

Please also contact Governor Kemp's office and ask him to take action: https://gov.georgia.gov/contact-us
Do the same to Congressman Mike Collins: https://collins.house.gov/contact/offices

These are the times and locations for food distributions happening in Athens in November 2025
